Calling all speakers and would-be speakers. If you have a tough life story, you may have a marketable product. Seems that corporations are tired of big shot executives, consultants and political speakers and opting for more realistic folks. The new breed (actually remake of an old breed) that are pulling down $10k to $40k a speech talk about how they overcame adversity--survived an avalanche, farming accident or other brutal life event (one was struck by a bail of hay, paralyzing him)See WSJ article . Some are blind or handicapped in other ways. They talk about overcoming these hurdles, and tie it all to corporate messages--dealing with change, for example. Not sure how long this trend will last, but it's a refreshing change from the stuffed suits and politicos (OK, not everyone's hurting..Ex president Bill Clinton still pulls in $175,000/speech).
